Short breaks

One of the ways in which Cartrefi Cymru supports people to lead fulfilled lives, at home and in the community, is through providing them with short breaks.

We all value holidays where we can have a change of scenery and routine, and can learn new things about the world. They help to make life a varied and enjoyable experience.

For adults with disabilities who are living with family carers it can also be a valuable opportunity to explore new relationships and develop greater independence.

And breaks for the person can also provide a break for the family carer too.

The kind of break that people want varies from person to person and family to family, so we try to ensure that there is a wide choice of options available.

In mid and north Wales we have seven small houses where people with learning disabilities can come and stay for a few nights or a couple of weeks as guests with on-site support staff.

All over Wales we are able to support people to go on holiday to a venue of their choice, whether it's a local hotel, a city-break, or somewhere abroad. The furthest we've been is Australia!

Some family carers like to have a break during the day. We are able to support people for day-time breaks, both at home and in the community, for a few hours or all day. We are also able to provide this flexible support in the evenings, overnight and on the weekend.
